The Netherlands Red Cross‘ data and digital initiative 510 aims to help every National Red Cross and Red Crescent Society in need anywhere. It is named after the total surface area of the earth (510 million square kilometres). It’s purpose is to improve speed, quality and cost-effectiveness of humanitarian aid by creating products and services using data and digital. 510 started in 2016 with a core team of 3 and never stopped growing. Currently, 510 has more than 100 team members, of whom 70+ are professional volunteers and academic students.
In 2023, 510 supported over 50 National Societies by providing data and digital services in the fields of Anticipatory Action, Cash & Voucher Assistance, Digital Transformation, Emergency Support and Water & Landscape, using methodologies of
Human-Centred Design, Digital Community Engagement and Accountability, and Data & Digital Responsibility.
