The Netherlands Red Cross proudly announces that the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (FICR) has adopted its 121 Platform in contribution to the network’s commitment to delivering 50% of humanitarian aid in the form of cash by 2025. The innovative digital solution is a user-friendly tool designed to streamline the Cash & Voucher Assistance (CVA) process, making it easier, safer, and faster for people affected by disasters to meet their own needs.
Having been implemented in 10 countries, the 121 Platform represents a significant advancement in humanitarian technology. It assists humanitarian organizations in running secure CVA programmes by providing a robust yet simple interface that does not require advanced information management expertise –CVA knowledge is sufficient. The platform also provides users with real-time data, enhancing transparency and accountability. Combining this with local Financial Service Provider (FSP) integrations, the 121 Platform stimulates true localization by allowing National Societies to fully own their digital CVA processes at-scale.
“The IFRC’s adoption of the 121 Platform underscores our dedication to pioneering solutions that enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of humanitarian aid. The platform not only modernizes our approach, but also ensures that aid reaches those in need swiftly and securely.”
Derk Segaar, Director of International Assistance at the Netherlands Red Cross
Key features of the 121 Platform include:
- User-friendly design: Simplified interface for ease of use, ensuring accessibility for all users
- By humanitarians, for humanitarians: Developed by a strong team with deep humanitarian CVA knowledge
- Localized: National Societies own the full process of delivering digital cash at-scale, integrated with (local) FSPs
- Easy collaboration on data: One single source of truth, eliminating reliance on excel sheets
- Accountability and privacy by design: Ensures accountability, security and confidentiality throughout the CVA process.
With the IFRC’s endorsement, the 121 Platform is set to be deployed by National Societies around the globe, addressing the diverse needs of communities affected by emergencies. The collaboration highlights a shared commitment to leveraging technology to improve humanitarian outcomes, with an aim to onboard another 10 clients in the coming year.
